Most visitors are drawn to the 130-acre impoundment and associated facilities. A six-mile trail, blazed with dark yellow diamonds, circles the lake, beginning at a trailhead just inside the gate. I suggest starting in a southwest direction; that gets developed areas out of the way sooner. The trail gets more interesting after crossing the dam, and even shares part of its tread with the transcontinental American Discovery Trail. This is my favorite part of the hike – remote and pleasant, through gently rolling woods.
