Vandolah
Nature Preserve
State Designated Nature Preserve [#134; 1992]
Trail. Click to enlarge
Vandolah is adjacent to I-69, and usually rather loud. From the parking area, the trail heads straight toward I-69, then turns south to skirt a deep ravine. Watch for honey locust trees with intimidating thorns. Another path descends to the bottom of the stream valley, connecting with a trail that follows Cedar Creek upstream. A portion of the property lies west of I-69 but the steep scramble under the highway probably isn’t worth it. Views of the creek and a nice assortment of spring wildflowers like twinleaf (if you’re lucky enough to see it in bloom), hepatica, and jack-in-the-pulpit make this a worthwhile, if noisy, destination.
