Today [18 Feb 2025] I received two postcards from ACRES Land Trust, each announcing the acquisiton of a new nature preserve. I'd provide a link to an article on their website, but couldn't find one. So here goes:

Jesse and Agnes Riegsecker Natural Area
203 acres in Elkhart County.
Named for the Riegsecker parents, this 203-acre preserve features distinctive ecosystems: a high-quality fen wetland and bog-like system, while scattered black oak stands reveal the land's historical character. Thirty acres of oak/hickory forests grace the slopes, complemented by early successional fields. This preserve marks a milestone as ACRES first property with planned future public access in Elkhart County.

Shingle Oak Ridge
114 acres in Fulton County.
Named for its distinctive oaks with unlobed leaves, Shingle Oak Ridge features woodlands, wetlands, and floodplain forest along the Tippecanoe River. ACRES plans to restore the property - located upstream of the Ruth Kern Woodland Preserve - and eventually welcome visitors to explore its natural treasures in the coming years.

New nature preserve dedicated in Floyd County. [17 Nov]

ACRES Land Trust has added 63 acres to the Heinzerling Nature Preserve. [3 Oct]
