Purple Trillium

Trillium recurvatum

Also known as Prairie trillium.

Purple trillium has a maroon flower, with stemmed leaves, and sepals that usually curve strongly downward. Noticeably taller than the otherwise similar toadshade. For some reason, this flower is also called prairie trillium, but don’t look for it in prairies. Like other trilliums, it is most at home in the woods. Found throughout Indiana where suitable habitat exists.
