Scarlet Oak Woods

Natural Areas: Scarlet Oak Woods

Scarlet Oak Woods offers a pleasant ridge walk through woods with beech, shagbark hickory, and yes, scarlet oaks. A side trail descends steeply into an intermittent stream valley; flagging on my last visit suggests more trails are on the way.

Monroe County. From the commercial center of New Unionville, about 1.25 miles east on IN 45, then right on Viking Ridge Rd. Park at the end of Viking Ridge Rd. No facilities.
